Nitrate Violation

On August 3, 2026, TCEQ determined Martin County FWSD 1 violated the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for nitrate in the water supplied to its customers during QUARTER THREE 2026.

​

The MCL for nitrate is 10 milligrams per meter (mg/L) based on a single sample. TCEQ determined a compliance value for nitrate in QUARTER THREE 2026 of 11 mg/L for EP001.

Rules and Regulations for Public Water Systems

The rules and regulations for public water systems are established and enforced by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) in Title 30 Texas Administrative Code (30 TAC), Chapter 290. The regulations adopted by TCEQ must meet or exceed the rules adopted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Safe Drinking Water Act. Martin County FWSD 1 is committed to compliance of these rules and regulations. ​

Groundwater
